Maya Productions and work | space Present Ami Dayan's REASON, Now thru 12/21

By:

Following its successful world-premiere in September and subsequent remount in November at The Dairy Center for the Arts in Boulder, "REASON" makes its Denver debut today, December 4, through the 21st, 2014 at work | space, the multi-award winning The LIDA Project's new work development space.

Suicide is the #1 cause of death of US armed forces. "REASON" is about a radical Pentagon-funded attempt to use Mindfulness Training to treat PTSD among combatants, veterans, and their affected families. It brings together a suspended drone pilot, a retired Marine, the wife of an infantry officer, and the mother of a wounded soldier on life support. "REASON" sheds light on their most intimate, painful, and hopeful moments as they all try to recover and move on.

"Dayan draws excellent performances from the entire ensemble. Without judging the events and policy-making that has drawn us into "the endless war on terrorism," Dayan's script details the physical, emotional, and spiritual devastation wrought by war. Cross-hatching dialogue, revealing the subjects' thoughts, and juxtaposed scenes, keep the drama taut and uptempo." Bob Bows, ColoradoDrama.com

"I was touched beyond words during the "REASON" performance. To communicate this caliber of knowledge about PTSD and its ripple effects, in such a captivating and real way, is a massive achievement, and the "REASON" team NAILED IT!" Thomas Jefferson Award & Merit Award recipient, Jenn Calaway, US Marine Corps.

After each performance of "REASON" audiences are invited to stay for URGENT CONVERSATIONS, a talkback series that will explore a range of viewpoints and personal experiences with Colorado-based soldiers, trauma specialists, veterans, psychologists, and experts in the field of Mindfulness Training, as well as the play's creative team.

URGENT CONVERSATIONS panelists include: Retired Master Sergeant Rich McKee, US Army; Trauma Therapist Pierre Bouchard; Rob Schware, PhD (Executive Director of Give Back Yoga, an organization that provides free Mindful Yoga Therapy to veterans and soldiers); Fredrick Solheim (founder of Warriors on the Cataract); and U.S. Marine veteran Scott Ostrom, whose struggles with PTSD were the subject of Denver Post photographer Craig F. Walker's 2012 Pulitzer Prize winning photo essay.
