Garner Galleria Theatre to Stage Developmental Production of THE KID with Joey McIntyre, 8/29-9/15

By: Aug. 13, 2013

Denver Center Attractions with producers, William Sherak and Jason Shuman, announce the developmental production of a new musical, THE KID, starring Joey McIntyre. This limited engagement plays The Garner Galleria Theatre August 29 through September 15 only. Tickets go on sale to the public Wednesday, August 14 at 10am online at denvercenter.org or by calling 303.893.4100.

Joey McIntyre is THE KID, the youngest member of New Kids on the Block, the biggest "boy band" in history. In this inspiring, entertaining and deeply personal coming-of-age story, Joey takes the audience from his hometown of Boston to sold-out stadium tours, when three generations of family drama becomes three decades of stage dreams. With music from his childhood, music he helped make famous and music that inspires him, THE KID is about the power of family--the family we're born to, the families we make-- and how sometimes finding your own voice starts with learning how to listen. THE KID shows us that every stage is different-and you may have to play them all before you find your stage.

"Denver Center Attractions is proud to be working with this talented group on their new project. Pay attention Denver, Mr. Joey McIntyre is an extremely talented young man."- Randy Weeks, Executive Director, Denver Center Attractions

Joey McIntyre's first love is the stage. He's a lifelong member of the Footlight Club in Boston, beginning there at the age of six. He was proud to play Fiyero in Broadway's Wicked. Off-Broadway: tick, tick...boom! (Jonathan). Other theatre: Joe was thrilled to play Fonzie in Happy Days: The Musical, directed by Garry Marshall, Babes in Arms at Reprise!, Barking Sharks by Israel Horovitz and numerous readings and workshops, including Catch Me If You Can. Film: The Fantasticks (Matt), Tony and Tina's Wedding (Tony), Garry Marshall's New Year's Eve and The Heat (Peter Mullins). TV: "Boston Public," "Love Inc.," "Less Than Perfect," "Psych," "90210," "CSI:NY" and "Motive." Joey also went on to make four solo albums, the first of which,Stay The Same, went gold.

This developmental production of a new musical is directed by Eli Gonda (The Catholic Girls Guide to Losing Your Virginity, The Rooster, "Husbands") and written with Christine Boylan ("Once Upon A Time," "Castle," "Leverage") with music direction by Rob Lewis (Christina Aguilera, Babyface, New Kids On The Block).

Review: A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC at DCPA

What did our critic think of A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC at DCPA? The biggest theatre name in town continues to produce granduer productions - even those that have 'small' in the title. Directed by Chris Coleman, DCPA's A Little Night Music fills the space like only they can: with top notch performers and clever, intricate staging. Coleman's direction accompanied by Kevin Copenhaver's costuming and Robert Mark Morgan's scenic design all work cohesively and give the actors quite the stage to stand on.
