DCPA Announces Full Cast For The Theatre For Young Audiences Production CORDUROY Image

The Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA) is proud to announce the full cast for the DCPA Theatre for Young Audiences production of Corduroy, based on the children's books Corduroy and A Pocket for Corduroy by Don Freeman.

Corduroy is a heartwarming comedy about a teddy bear patiently waiting on a department store shelf to find a home, and Lisa who thinks he's just the teddy bear for her. Follow Corduroy's delightfully rollicking chase in this tender, enduring story about true friendship and the lengths we go to find it.

Corduroy will feature Jake Mendes (This is Modern Art, DCPA Off-Center) as Corduroy, Kristina Fountaine (Shakespeare in the Parking Lot, DCPA) as Lisa, Kristen Adele (Jackie & Me, DCPA Theatre Company) as Mother, and Jessica Robblee (Frankenstein, DCPA Theatre Company) as Night Watchman.

Corduroy will be directed by Allison Watrous (Executive Director of Education, The Snowy Day and Other Stories by Ezra Jack Keats) and include designs by Lisa Orzolek (Scenic Designer, DCPA's Native Gardens), Kevin Copenhaver (Costume Designer, The Who's Tommy), Charles MacLeod (Lighting Designer, DCPA's Native Gardens), Jason Ducat (Sound Designer, DCPA's The Snowy Day and Other Stories by Ezra Jack Keats), and stage management by Corin Ferris (Stage Manager) and Kristen O'Conner (Assistant Stage Manager).

"If you cultivate the wonder of the arts at an early age, then that becomes part of the fabric of the learner - and the human being, theatre makes stronger readers, collaborators and creative thinkers," said Allison Watrous, Executive Director of Education. "Theatre makes connections to the world through the power of storytelling. There are so many beautiful transferable skills students can develop through seeing live theatre. I am thrilled to continue our Theatre for Young Audiences work with Corduroy and to welcome so many young learners to the DCPA."

Last fall, the DCPA launched Theatre for Young Audiences with The Snowy Day and Other Stories by Ezra Jack Keats, welcoming in nearly 20,000 Denver area students, teachers and families - 79% of whom attended on a full or partial scholarship.

DCPA will stage more than 100 performances of Corduroy tailored for PreK through 3rd grade audiences in The Conservatory Theatre including two sensory-friendly performances on October 22. Weekday performances are $10 and weekend performances are $15. To purchase tickets, visit denvercenter.org/corduroy.
