Colorado Public Radio Classical to Broadcast Bravo! Vail Concerts

Bravo! Vail today announced that Colorado Public Radio Classical (CPR Classical) will broadcast six concerts from their 2014 "SummerFest" concert series to listeners across Colorado, including concerts featuring pianist Hélène Grimaud and The Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin on July 12, and pianist Yefim Bronfman and the New York Philharmonic conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert on July 19.

Now in its second year, CPR's broadcasts from Bravo! Vail will feature the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, The Philadelphia Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic, as well as chamber music by Bravo! Vail Artistic Director Anne-Marie McDermott, violinist David Kim, pianist Gilles Vonsattel, Third Coast Percussion, Le Train Bleu and conductor Ransom Wilson, the Calder Quartet, and additional guests. CPR Classical will also showcase Bravo! Vail chamber music concerts, highlighting performances captured from Vail's Donovan Pavilion.

CPR Classical's "SummerFest" concert series from Bravo! Vail includes three live and three recorded broadcasts, as well as exclusive interviews with guest artists. The broadcasts bring live and recorded concerts from Bravo! Vail into the homes of thousands of listeners, making the festival a statewide event. This concert marks the Bravo! Vail debut of the sensational French pianist Hélène Grimaud. The program concludes with Sergei Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances, written by the great Russian master especially for The Philadelphia Orchestra.

The New Yorkers join Yefim Bronfman, one of the world's leading pianists, in an all-Beethoven program centering on two of the composer's most popular works - his concertos numbers 1 and 5. Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, subtitled Emperor, remains one of the most recognizable works in the classical music repertory.

Tuesday, July 22, 6 p.m. - Bravo! Vail *Live Broadcast | Chamber Music, Third Coast Percussion | Bartók and Reich | Piano: Anne-Marie McDermott and Gilles Vonsattel
Two pianists and percussion come together in a program that pairs one of Bartók's most performed works with Stephen Reich's composition for the same instrumentation. Reich's Sextet received its American premiere as part of the Next Wave Festival at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

Saturday, August 2, 7 p.m. - Bravo! Vail | Chamber Music, Le Train Bleu, Calder Quartet | The Music of Ravel and Rouse | Ransom Wilson, conductor, Le Train Bleu
The great French master Maurice Ravel is paired with contemporary American composer Christopher Rouse. From Ravel's evocative and shimmering Introduction and Allegro to Rouse's string quartet, an homage to both Bartók and Anwar Sadat, this is a concert of impressionistic and ethereal harmonies.
