Dare to Defy Productions Presents JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR

Dare to Defy Productions presents a Dare 2 Inspire production of the Rock Opera Jesus Christ Superstar.

Considering our increasingly volatile political climate; the pervasive and influential nature of media on politics and cultural perceptions; as well as the rampant religious intolerance observed throughout the world, we are excited to present a multimedia contemporary take on the controversial and heavily political Andrew Lloyd Webber 70's rock opera about the final days of the life of Jesus. In our production, the message of Jesus, a viral internet sensation, speaks to the yearning masses, inspiring formidable movements and political action, which poses perceived threats to and causes great concern for governments and churches across the globe.

The director, Michael Wadham, explains "I believe that telling this story, this way, right now is important because people are becoming increasingly attached to their personal electronics and are so heavily influenced by social media. The media in general is consistently under attack, and society is inundated with conflicting messages. Additionally, messages we generally associate with Jesus (those of peace and kindness, or those of "love thy neighbor") are increasingly politicized. To present this show in a modern world illuminates Jesus's message in a new way, and is intended to invite the audience to wonder what it would look like if Jesus were to have presented himself now instead of over 2000 years ago."

The 50+ member cast is comprised entirely of young local artists aged 14-20. With talent and passion this group of artists fully engages, challenges and inspires while examining the source material in the context of the current environment.

All performances are in the incredible theater located in the Dayton Convention Center.

Dare 2 Inspire aims to make cutting edge and meaningful theatre experiences accessible to all students in the area. Dare 2 Inspire seeks to create an environment where all children feel welcomed, empowered, respected, and supported by adults as well as their peers, using theatrical and pro-social education in addition to the creation of vibrant full-scale productions as the dual platforms for the facilitation of this experience.
