Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre & School was founded in 1982 in Minneapolis by artistic director Susana di Palma and is one of the few American Spanish dance companies presenting both traditional flamenco and original theatrical flamenco works. Its mission is to create socially relevant flamenco while cultivating community through education and outreach. The Zorongo School, at its Minnehaha Avenue studio, describes itself as a supportive community open to everyone, whether students aim at professional performance or simply want to move and make art. Classes are graded by level, with newcomers starting at Level 1 and loaner shoes available. Accessibility measures include a 50 percent student discount and a work-study program; visiting artists teach workshops.
