WaterTower Theatre Announces INTERSECTIONS, A New Community Engagement Program

WaterTower Theatre Artistic Director, Joanie Schultz, today announced details for Intersections. In the spirit of WaterTower Theatre's mission to build community by fostering empathy and dialogue, WaterTower announces its new community engagement programming, aptly titled Intersections, as this programming is constantly exploring where our artistic work intersects with our larger community.

"Intersections has two primary objectives" explains Schultz. "The first is focused on providing all of our audience members a deeper look into the artistic work on our stages, offering more context while making our work even more relevant in the lives of our audience. The second is cultivating authentic artistic exchanges across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, with the belief that the themes and human stories we put on our stages will resonate throughout the community."

Intersections will include but will not be limited to:

· Engagement initiatives with community groups throughout DFW

· Hosting talkbacks with community members in connection to our Main Stage programming

· Artistic collaborations with local organizations and individual artists

· Artistic initiatives or volunteer opportunities focused around our Main Stage programming

· Production Play Guides, available both online and in print

· Accessible workshops for local artists and community members

· Play readings

· Community discussions

· Interactive Lobby installations

· Education for young people and adults

It is WaterTower Theatre's intention to offer a variety of engagement opportunities for every production on our stage. Intersections programming for Hit the Wall includes post-show conversations with cast members and selected panels, as well as Local Band Nights. Local Band Nights will consist of free concerts featuring DFW music artists following select performances at the theater. Entry into the concert is free with the purchase of a ticket to Hit the Wall. August 11th - Local Band Night featuring Rat Rios

August 12th matinee - CHANGING ATTITUDES - A Conversation with Parents of LGBTQ Youth

August 13th - QUEER STUDIES - A Conversation with Dr. Susan Harper, queer historian

August 16th - DEFINING MOMENTS - A Conversation about Life During the 1960's

August 18th - Local Band Night featuring Secrecies

August 19th matinee - Community Conversation

August 20th - Conversation with the Artists

About Hit the Wall

The show follows a diverse group young New Yorkers as a joyful evening at a gay nightclub, following the death of the iconic Judy Garland, is brutally interrupted by a police raid that touches off days of violent protests. Hit the Wall premiered in 2012 at Chicago's famed Steppenwolf Theatre. Hit the Wall transports audiences to the Stonewall Riots in New York's Greenwich Village on June 27-28, 1969, when a routine police raid on an underground gay hotspot became a foundational moment for the modern gay rights movement. Featuring a howling live rock band that evokes the era's proto-punk music and fast-paced, sharp dialogue, the vivid theatrical re-imagination focuses on ten unlikely revolutionaries, each claiming in turn "I was there."

Hit the Wall is recommended for mature audiences only due to adult content and language.
