Hailed by The New York Times as "the master storyteller" and "one of the finest solo performers of his generation," Mike Daisey's extemporaneous monologues skewer, illuminate, and ultimately celebrate our world with equal parts humor and heart. Texas Performing Arts is proud to present Mike Daisey, performing the Texas premiere of his acclaimed monologue, The Last Cargo Cult, September 21-22 at the McCullough Theatre.

In The Last Cargo Cult, Daisey masterfully tells the story of his journey to a remote South Pacific island whose people worship America and its cargo. This narrative is woven against a searing examination of the international financial crisis that gripped the globe at the same moment. Confronting the financial system that dominates our world, Daisey wrestles with the largest questions of what the collapse means, and what it can tell us about our deepest values. Part adventure story and part memoir, he explores each culture to unearth a human truth between the seemingly primitive and achingly modern.

Currently living in New York with his wife and director Jean-Michele Gregory, Daisey has appeared as a guest on the Late Show with David Letterman. Daisy has also commentated and contributed to productions like WIRED, Vanity Fair, NPR and the BBC. He was awarded the Bay Area Critics Circle Award, four Seattle Times Footlight Awards, the Sloan Foundation's Galileo Prize and a MacDowell Fellowship, and has been nominated for the Outer Critics Circle Award and two Drama League Awards. Monologues like Tongues Will Wag, If You See Something Say Something and How Theater Failed America have become classic staples in Daisey's repertoire.
