Segerstrom Center for the Arts Kicks Off 30th Anniversary Celebration with Tour de Force III Dance Spectacular

Segerstrom Center for the Arts begins its 30th Anniversary celebration with another one-night-only star-studded evening of dance: Tour de Force III. The performance will be the first event to represent the array and diversity of the Center's artistic programming, in this case, 30 years of presenting the greatest ballet companies and the world's most celebrated dancers. Tour de Force III will be on Saturday, August 27 in Segerstrom Hall. Produced in collaboration with Ardani Artists, the program will include four Center premieres: Clay by Vladimir Varnava, Zeitgeist by Alastair Marriott, Tristesse by Marcelo Gomes and Le Divertissement du Roi by Maxim Petrov. The international cast includes Diana Vishneva, Joaquin de Luz, Marcelo Gomes, Denis Matvienko, Marcelino Sambe?, Friedemann Vogel and Edward Watson, as well as members of the The Royal Ballet, Mariinsky Ballet and the National Ballet of Canada.
Segerstrom Center's Annual Summer at the Center Program to Celebrate 25th Anniversary

Summer at the Center (SATC), Segerstrom Center for the Arts program for high- risk and underserved teens, will have its 25th annual session July 18 - 29. The program, which was adopted by the U.S. Department of Education as one of its model programs, offers high school-age teens facing personal challenges a safe environment in which to grow, trust and develop self-esteem and positive goals. SATC professional teaching artists use elements of musical theater to engage participants in fun, creative and productive lessons and exercises. Following their hard work during the two-week program, the students will perform a Broadway revue-style show in Samueli Theater on Saturday, July 30 at 4:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The performances are free and open to the public; no reservations are required. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. More information is available at www.scfta.org/satc.

Tickets are on sale now for the brand new production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC, directed by three-time Tony Award® winner Jack O'Brien. This lavish new production will make its Orange County premiere July 19 - 31, 2016 at Segerstrom Center for the Arts as part of a North American tour. Tickets for THE SOUND OF MUSIC start at $29 and may be purchased online at SCFTA.org, the Box Office at 600 Town Center Drive in Costa Mesa or by calling (714) 556-2787. For inquiries about group tickets for 10 or more, call the Group Services office at (714) 755-0236. The 2 p.m. performance on Saturday, July 30, 2016 will include audio description, open captioning and sign-language interpretation.
Laguna Playhouse Receives $5,000 Grant from National Finance Partners

Laguna Playhouse was recently awarded a grant of $5,000 from National Finance Partners (NFP) to provide support and for its year-round education programs, according to the Playhouse's Director of Youth Theatre, Education and Outreach Donna Inglima. The grant was brought to the Playhouse through Past Chairperson, Visit Laguna Beach and Laguna Playhouse 90th Anniversary Chairperson Karyn Philippsen.
Choral Arts Initiative to Close 4th Season with World Premiere of HOW TO GO ON

Choral Arts Initiative, named one of Orange County's Best Choirs by CBS News, concludes its fourth season with "How to Go On," a concert of works by composer Dale Trumbore to be performed in Anaheim and Newport Beach July 16 & 17, 2016 and conducted by Artistic Director Brandon Elliott. The highlight of the program will be the premiere of a 35-minute secular requiem commissioned from Trumbore by Choral Arts Initiative, also titled "How to Go On." An eight-movement contemporary meditation on mortality for virtuosic a cappella chorus and soloists, this new composition sets to music poems about grief, beauty and solace by contemporary writers Barbara Crooker, Amy Fleury, and Laura Foley.

Tomlin, who is currently in production on the hit series, Grace and Frankie, co-starring Jane Fonda, returns to the Center in her solo show that features her hilarious brand of stand-up comedy and delves into some of the most iconic Tomlin roles from her extraordinary 40-year career. Pacific Chorale to Play Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall on June 12

Artistic Director John Alexander and the 140-voice Pacific Chorale will be transforming the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall into a resounding cathedral with a concert of music for choir and organ on June 12, in anticipation of their summer 2016 tour to Budapest and Vienna. The brilliant young Hungarian organist Andras Gabor Viragh, Titular Organist of St. Stephen's Basilica in Budapest, joins Pacific Chorale from the console of the William J. Gillespie Concert Organ, in a program that interweaves European and American works, including some of his own compositions.

The Costa Mesa Playhouse closes its 51st season with the campy spoof "The Great American Trailer Park Musical," playing June 4 through July 3.  With music and lyrics by David Nehls and book by Betsy Kelso, 'The Great American Trailer Park Musical' began its journey as a series of staged readings and workshops, followed by a sold-out run at The New York Musical Theatre Festival in 2004, which led to a 2005 Off Broadway run.  A Christmas-themed sequel followed.
