South Coast Rep Presents IN THE NEXT ROOM (or The Vibrator Play), 9/26

By: Sep. 17, 2010

South Coast Rep will present IN THE NEXT ROOM or the vibrator play by Sarah Ruhl and directed by Casey Stangl, September 26 - October 17 on the Julianne Argyros Stage.

Broadway's latest mega-hit is set in the Victorian era, just before its corseted women shed their inhibitions. A new electric invention has been introduced to the medical world. Dr. Givings, one of its early champions, marvels at the effect it has on patients suffering from "female hysteria," while in the adjoining room, his own wife yearns for another kind of intimacy. This funny, tender and illuminating play has generated excitement from East Coast to West.

Previews begin September 26 - 30.  The show opens October 1 and closes October 17.

Tickets are $20-$66 (Previews $20-$46, Regular Run $28-$66).

Post Show Discussion Nights: Tuesday, October 5, and Wednesday, October 6.
Inside the Season: Saturday, October 9, at 10:30 a.m.
ASL interpreted performance for the deaf community: Saturday, October 16, at 2:30 p.m.
Honorary Producers: Jean and Tim Weiss

Also playing at South Coast Rep this season:

MISALLIANCE by George Bernard Shaw and directed by Martin Benson, will be performed through October 10, on the Segerstrom Stage.

SCR and GBS-a relationship that has wowed theatre audiences with stellar productions and countless awards. Now the fun begins anew, and Shaw is at his mischievous best, turning his sharp wit to the relationship between parents and children. While the elders argue ideas and morals, the younger generation longs for action, adventure, love and independence. Especially Hypatia, who is tired of all the talk and ready for something to happen. Finally it does!

The play closes October 10.

Tickets are $28-$66.

Post Show Discussion Nights: Wednesday, September 22, and Tuesday, September 28.
Inside the Season: Saturday, September 25, at 10:30 a.m.
