Organist Cameron Carpenter Makes Segerstrom Debut with Free Concert

By: Aug. 09, 2011

Sometimes called the ‘bad boy' of the organ world, Cameron Carpenter is considered a revolutionary in his field, and he's bringing his immeasurable talents to Segerstrom Center for a free concert in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall on October 2 at 2 p.m. Carpenter will be sure to dazzle audiences on hand for his debut at the the William J. Gillespie Concert Organ during the Center's 25th Anniversary weekend. Not yet 30 years old, he is renowned not only for his playing of great works composed for the organ, but also for his own compositions and arrangements. This concert is an offering of Segerstrom Center's wildly popular Free for All Series, which allows people to experience exciting entertainment in new and intriguing ways - and all for free.

The New York Times calls Carpenter, "The Maverick Organist... he is a player with extraordinarily glib fingers and Astairelike footwork... a first-rate talent with a sense of how phrases move."

Tickets to the Cameron Carpenter concert are free, but reservations are required. Tickets will be available starting September 4.
