The Hartt School Announces Hartt's Got Talent, Broadcast Fridays And Sundays

By: Mar. 23, 2010

The Hartt School announces a new television program, Hartt's Got Talent, an exciting and unique collaboration with Hartford Public Access Television (HPATV). Featuring interviews and performance segments, Hartt's Got Talent spotlights dynamic and talented Hartt faculty, students, and alumni from all areas of The Hartt School.

The program previewed in February with a special episode for Black History Month featuring second year Hartt student Nelson Ebo, tenor, from Angola. Nelson's inspirational story is one of triumph in the face of adversity, and his vocal gift has been acknowledged by opera legends Placido Domingo and Marilyn Horne.

The series officially kicked off in March with an exciting interview with and two performances by Hartt's renowned jazz bass faculty member Nat Reeves and students of Hartt's Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz; Josh Bruneau, a senior trumpet player from Waterbury, VT; and Jonathan Barber, a junior trumpeter from Windsor, CT.

The program is being broadcast on channel 95, the Education Access Channel, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 12:00 PM (noon), and on Wednesdays and Sundays at 7:00 PM. The series will continue with new profiles and performances throughout the year during each of HPATV's four thirteen-week seasons.

"As the new Executive Director of HPATV, I am thrilled that the University of Hartford's Hartt School will partner with us to produce a television series about their outstanding performing arts institution," stated Billie C. Scruse. She continued, "The opportunity to capture profiles of students, teachers, and acclaimed degree programs in the arts will be a wonderful addition to our community programming. The Hartt School is indeed a community stakeholder and I believe our collaboration defines the very essence of what public access television programming is all about!"

Hartford Public Access Television operates Hartford's public, education, and government access television stations for the purpose of informing Hartford residents about community issues and activities, as well as providing residents with a forum to express their opinions. HPATV's role in the Hartford community is to continue to be a source of information that is useful to residents, provide a mechanism to facilitate activism, and boost Hartford as a good place to live, work, and visit.
