Registration for TW Kids' Summer Program Now Open

By:

TheatreWorks Kids (TW Kids) registration is now open for a three week-long program beginning Monday, July 21, 2014. Led by instructor Amy Emke and musical director Joanne F. Archibald, students ages 7 to 18 will rehearse and perform a newly adapted production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC. Classes begin with a two hour introduction on Saturday July 19 and continue from Monday July 21 to Friday August 8 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm each day.

Tuition is $450.00. The classes will culminate in three performance for parents, friends, and the general public on Friday evening at 7:00 pm and Saturday August 9 at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm.

TW Kids will be the first in this area to obtain the rights to this specially adapted version of Rodgers & Hammerstein's most beloved musical, The Sound of Music. Students will have the opportunity to learn the craft of live musical theatre with one of the most dazzling scores and heartwarming stories available to this age group.

This final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein begins with a nun-in-training who proves to be too high-spirited for the religious life. She is soon dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain. Her growing rapport with the children, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain, and they marry. Upon returning from their honeymoon, they discover that Austria has been invaded by the Nazis, who demand the Captain's immediate service in the navy. The family's narrow escape over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented in the theatre. The motion picture version remains the most popular movie musical of all time.

All programs will take place at TheatreWorks New Milford, 5 Brookside Ave, New Milford, CT. If you have any questions, please contact the theatre at 860-350-6863 or info@theatreworks.us.
