Newington Mainstage to Present THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES: CAPS & GOWNS, 5/18-19

The girls are back in town! (and this time, hopefully blizzard-free!!) Newington Mainstage was going to present the East Coast premiere of "The Marvelous Wonderettes: Caps & Gowns" - the highly anticipated sequel to last year's sold-out smash - in February, but Mother Nature had other plans.

The major blizzard, which shut-down most of the state, forced the group to cancel two of the three scheduled performances. "This is truly a fantastic show that we're very proud of, and we were deeply saddened to have to cancel - but the weather just left us no choice" said co-directors Cindy Lesser and Kelly Boucher, "the safety of our patrons, as well as our actors & crew, was extremely important to us." The Sunday matinee performance went on as planned - and those who were able to dig out and get to the theatre and cure their cabin fever with this songfest of classic hits!

Having maintained the set, costumes and cast - Newington Mainstage is very excited to be re-mounting the production - for TWO performances only - on Saturday, May 18 at 8pm and Sunday, May 19 at 2pm.

"The Marvelous Wonderettes: Caps & Gowns" takes us to the Springfield High School graduation where we reunite with the Wonderettes, four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts! As we learn about their lives and loves (and take a peek into their futures!) we are treated to the girls performing classic '50s and '60s songs such as "River Deep, Mountain High," "Dedicated To The One I Love," "Rockin' Robin" and over 20 other classic hits!

The incredibly talented cast of four - Kelly Boucher, Rosanne Gowdy, Katie Keough & Cindy Lesser - return to take us back in time with their humor, charm and most of all - their outstanding voices! The show is directed by Lesser & Boucher, with Music Direction by Mike Gowdy and choreography by Madalyn Sheehy.

Newington Mainstage will present "The Marvelous Wonderettes: Caps & Gowns" at the Newington Town Hall Auditorium (131 Cedar Street, Newington).
