On May 9, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. Evenings@7 will present a staged reading of Harvey Fierstein's Tony-winning play about love, family and drag performance in the late 1970s New York, TORCH SONG TRILOGY.

TORCH SONG TRILOGY, which is three one-act plays combined, tells the funny, yet touching story of Arnold Beckoff, a torch singer in drag who longs for a husband and family. From Arnold's hilarious steps toward domestic bliss with a reluctant lover, to his first truly promising love affair with a young model, Arnold's greatest challenge is his complicated relationship with his mother.

Opening on Broadway in 1982, where it played 1,222 performances, TORCH SONG TRILOGY won the Tony Award and Drama Desk Award in 1983 as Best Play, and a Best Actor Award for Harvey Fierstein. It later was made into a movie with Mr. Fierstein, Anne Bancroft and Matthew Broderick. TORCH SONG TRILOGY returns Off Broadway this fall.

Making his LTM debut, Johnny Revicki (Manchester) produces, directs, and plays the role of Arnold. "TORCH SONG TRILOGY first touched my heart while watching the film in my youth. The story remains so current, so poignant, so perfectly lovable and flawed; I couldn't resist."

"It's a play about people searching for self-respect. We all want to be respected for who we are. We all want to love ourselves and to be loved. And while it is a comic love story, it is also about characters who are flawed, characters who are real. We all love a good love story, but it's a believable love story, not just a fantasy."

The rest of the cast includes:

Ed: Shawn Procuniar (New London)

Narrator: Jill Dvorsky (New London)

Alan: Michael McKiernan (Colchester)

Laurel: Iesha Moore Rose (Middletown)

David: Zach Cote (Bristol)

Mrs. Beckoff: Barbara Gallow Liskow (Newington)
