Under the Streetlamp Comes to Columbus, 12/16

By:

Under the Streetlamp, America's hottest new vocal group, delivers an electrifying evening of classic hits from the American Radio Songbook. These four magnetic vocalists bring their unique blend of tight harmonies and slick dance moves to your favorite doo-wop, Motown, and old-time rock 'n' roll hits from The Drifters, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Four Seasons, and more. The quartet is composed of recent leading cast members of the smash hit Jersey Boys-Michael Cunio, Michael Ingersoll, Christopher Kale Jones, and Shonn Wiley. Exuding the irresistible rapport of a modern day Rat Pack, Under the Streetlamp proves why retro never sounded so now.

CAPA presents Under the Streetlamp at 7pm on Sunday, December 16, at the Capitol Theatre (77 S. High St.). Tickets are $39.50 and $49.50 at the CAPA Ticket Center (39 E. State St.), all Ticketmaster outlets, and www.ticketmaster.com. To purchase tickets by phone, please call (614) 469-0939 or (800) 745-3000.

Students between the ages of 13-19 may purchase $5 PNC Arts Alive All Access tickets while available.

Certainly much can and has been said about the great melodies, clever lyrics, and exceptional performers of the American Radio Songbook era, but some credit at least is due to the unique manner in which the music was shared. Radio was king. The country listened as jazz, swing, and the blues gave birth to doo-wop, rock 'n roll, and soul, and everybody experienced it over the radio. As a result (and with the help of great DJs like Alan Freed and Wolfman Jack) one could experience Etta James, The Four Seasons, and Johnny Cash all on one station. Whether you wanted to "Twist and Shout" with The Beatles, "Cry" with Johnny Ray, gaze upon a "Blue Moon" with The Marcels, or "Save the Last Dance' for Sam Cooke, all you had to do was turn on the radio.
