Shadowbox Live to Hold Auditions for Summer 2016 Bootcamp

The Shadowbox Academy's Summer Bootcamp, a three-week arts intensive program for high school and early college students ages 15-21, is coming up soon! Your teen's chance to be a part of this unique opportunity is rapidly approaching, with auditions being held on Saturday, May 21st and June 4th at The Shadowbox Live Building, 503 S. Front Street.

"The Summer Boot Camp program has been unbelievably successful," says Stacie Boord, Education Director for Shadowbox Live. "Yes we teach the arts, but these students take away so much more."

While the purpose of the Summer Bootcamp is to provide master class workshops in the performing disciplines of the "Rock Arts": singing, dancing, acting and musicianship, it also focuses heavily "life skills" and professionalism.

"What most people don't realize about performing at the professional level is how much fortitude it truly requires," explains Boord. "You have to be self-motivated, able to take constructive criticism, and have a tremendous amount of courage. And that's what we teach in our Bootcamp. We just do it by using the Rock Arts."

Participation for the Summer Bootcamp is by audition only, and audition slots are available through an application process. Accepted participants attend a three-week course, running for four hours each day, Monday through Thursday, with a five and a half hour session on Fridays July 18th through August 5th. The program culminates in a Showcase performance to a historically sold out audience.

"It's truly amazing to watch these teenagers grow and surprise themselves with what they can accomplish in such a short time," says Boord. "And it's my sincere hope they take that confidence with them for the rest of their lives."
