Theatre Ninjas Presents THE EVACUATION, 4/7

Theater Ninjas will wrap up their fifth, critically-acclaimed season this April with the world premiere of "The Excavation", an original theatrical experience that blends live action, music and visual art. The interactive show celebrates the life, death and re-discovery of Pompeii, a roman city destroyed by volcano. In addition to drawing parallels between 79 C.E. and the present day, "The Excavation" examines the way people reveal more about themselves when digging into the past.

"The Excavation" is a living museum staged throughout multiple rooms and galleries. Professors, Pompeiians and charlatans act as guides as the spectator walks through a labyrinth of exhibits, choosing his/her own adventure. From living statue gardens to extreme science demonstrations to vaudevillian puppet shows, "The Excavation" argues reasons for preserving Pompeii while asking why anyone should even care in the first place.

"The best way to describe the show is part Happening, part fun house," said Artistic Director Jeremy Paul. "Each audience member will navigate his or her way through this wild blend of live performance, every turn leading somewhere new. Just like in a real museum, you may get lost...and that?s ok. Just don?t lose your map."

"The Excavation" will be performed at the 78th Street Studios, the "arts mecca for Cleveland?s west side." This is the second appearance by Theater Ninjas at the Studios, and the final production of their fifth season. Beginning in 2006, Theater Ninjas has consistently created exciting, unique theatrical experiences in the Cleveland area. Specializing in new and original work, the ?beyond-edgy? Ninjas have recently earned critical acclaim for "Inoculations" and "Anna Bella Eema", with Artistic Director Paul being singled out by the Cleveland Plain Dealer as "Theater Person of the Year (2010)".
