The Musical Theater Project Presents ALMOST LIKE BEING IN LOVE: THE SONGS OF LERNER & LOEWE

By:

The Musical Theater Project will produce "Almost Like Being in Love: The Songs of Lerner and Loewe" on Sunday, November 20 (2pm) at the Hanna Theater at Playhouse Square.

Lyricist Alan Jay Lerner and composer Frederick Loewe fashioned four of the most beloved musicals of all time: My Fair Lady, Camelot, Brigadoon and Gigi, writing for stars Rex Harrison, Julie Andrews, Richard Burton, Robert Goulet and Leslie Caron. Songs from all four musicals will be performed including "If Ever I Would Leave You," "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face," "Camelot," "Gigi" and "Almost Like Being in Love."

TMTP's concert will combine live performance with dozens of rare still images and video clips, showcasing Lerner and Loewe's finest theater songs and exploring the men behind the music.

The concert will be co-hosted by TMTP artistic director Bill Rudman and associate artistic director Nancy Maier, and the songs will be performed by vocalists Benjamin Czarnota, Baldwin Wallace University faculty member, and New York's Clare Eisentrout. The concert will feature new arrangements by Cleveland composer Ty Alan Emerson written for piano, violin and cello.

Music director Nancy Maier said, "I think our audience will be delighted all over again by these beautiful classics, and I hope we will stir many personal memories for them. The musicals of Lerner and Loewe run deep in the American psyche; they're part of Broadway's Golden Age."

The Hanna Theater, Playhouse Square is located at 2067 E. 14th Street, Cleveland 44115. General tickets are priced at $35-$60. Tickets are available through Playhouse Square's Box Office at 216-241-6000.

"Almost Like Being in Love: The Songs of Lerner and Loewe" is produced with support from New York's Frederick Loewe Foundation. The concert is part of "The Song Is You!" concert and cabaret season produced each year by The Musical Theater Project at a variety of locations.

"The Song Is You!" receives additional support from Robert Conrad, the Cleveland Foundation, the Kulas Foundation, The George Gund Foundation, Cleveland Public Library, Cuyahoga Arts & Culture and Ohio Arts Council. Media sponsors include WCLV 104.9 FM.
