The Musical Theater Project Hosts Two Evenings of SILVER LININGS: THE SONGS OF JEROME KERN

By:

The Musical Theater Project (TMTP) will produce "Silver Linings: The Songs of Jerome Kern" on Friday, October 19 at 7 pm at First Baptist Church of Cleveland in Shaker Heights and on Sunday, October 21 at 3pm at Mixon Hall at Cleveland Institute of Music.

Jerome Kern wrote the music for many of the most beloved songs in musical theater. These include the score for Show Boat (including "Ol' Man River," "Can't Help Lovin' That Man," "Bill") and such songs as "All the Things You Are," "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes," "Look for the Silver Lining," "I Won't Dance," "I'm Old Fashioned," "Long Ago and Far Away" and two Oscar winners: "The Last Time I Saw Paris" and "The Way You Look Tonight."

The beauty of Kern's music will shine through in performances by New York soprano Amy Weintraub and TMTP tenor Shane Patrick O'Neill, and in sparkling new arrangements written for piano, violin and cello by Ty Alan Emerson. Bill Rudman and Nancy Maier will co-host and provide commentary, and as in all TMTP concerts, the show will be enriched by video clips and dozens of still images.

Says Rudman: "Kern was the master of melody. He influenced Gershwin, Richard Rodgers and even Stephen Sondheim with the purity of his style. Our goal is to leave romantic hearts beating to a spate of unforgettable tunes. Our concert offers the best kind of nostalgia."

First Baptist Church of Cleveland is located at 3630 Fairmount Boulevard, Shaker Heights 44118. The Cleveland Institute of Music is located at 11021 East Boulevard, Cleveland 44106. Tickets are $30-$38 and available through Brown Paper Tickets at 1-800-838-3006 or at www.MusicalTheaterProject.org.

"Silver Linings: The Songs of Jerome Kern" is part of the Song Is You! concert and cabaret series produced each year by The Musical Theater Project at a variety of locations.
