2020 Summer Internships - Nashville Children's Theatre

Nashville Children's Theatre is seeking dedicated college students to serve as interns for the summer of 2020. NCT provides volunteer/unpaid intern opportunities for the benefit of participants to provide high-level training and work experience in specialized areas of theatre for and with youth.

The application process is still open for the Summer Camp Internship, Media and Communication Internships, Tech Internship, Stage Management Internship, and Costuming Internship. Submissions will be accepted until May 4th, 2020.



Available Internships:

Summer Camp Internship:

This internship provides students with experience in theatre education, creative drama and artistic administration. Interns will serve as teaching assistants to NCT's professional teaching artists, many of whom are members of NCT's professional acting company. Camps serve ages 4-18, and interns participate in the breadth of the curriculum. Interns will learn a variety of theatre games and activities and facilitate those with campers. In addition, interns will help design, direct and implement campers' shows as well as assist with administrative duties and safety protocol involved in running a full-scale summer camp.



Summer camp interns receive in-depth training prior to summer camps, and participate in weekly training and reflection sessions throughout the summer.



NCT offers week-long drama camps all summer long, 9 am to 3 pm. Interns are required to be present for full days for the duration of the summer; however, other arrangements can be considered. Summer Camp Intern training will take place May 18-22, 2020. The internship then runs May 26 - August 5, 2019. We are seeking 10-12 summer camp interns for 2020.



Media and Communication Photojournalism Internship:

This internship provides interns with hands-on experience in Media and Communications, primarily as related to our Summer Camps. This intern will be responsible for maintaining the Summer Camp Photo Blog. Each day, this intern will photograph and write about camp activities, creating a blog entry for each day utilizing our password protected WordPress blog. It is a great experience on learning what kind of content is effective and attention grabbing, adhering to content guidelines and style guides, brand adherence, time management, and sticking to a deadline. As well as being careful to walk that delicate line when working with youth. Students of all skill levels are encouraged to apply; however, the ideal candidate will have strong storytelling skills and a basic understanding of photographic composition and framing. The internship runs mid-May through the beginning of August, although other schedules may be considered.



Media and Communication Video Editing Internship:

This internship provides interns with hands-on experience in Media and Communications, primarily as related to our Summer Camps. This intern will be responsible for editing captured summer camp video to create packages for each Core Camp offered. It is a great experience on learning what kind of content is effective and attention grabbing, adhering to content guidelines and style guides, brand adherence, time management, and sticking to a deadline. As well as being careful to walk that delicate line when working with youth. Students of all skill levels are encouraged to apply; however, the ideal candidate will have strong storytelling skills and a basic understanding of editing, timing, and titling. The internship runs mid-May through the beginning of August, although other schedules may be considered.



Costuming Internship:

This internship provides students with hands-on stitching experience in our professional costume shop, as the intern will help build costumes for our Junior Artist Production and our full-scale Emerging Artists Production. The costuming intern will also assist with fittings and help with costume changes and repairs backstage. The date requirements for this internship are somewhat flexible, but the ideal candidate will be available mid-May through the beginning of August. We are seeking 2 costuming interns for summer 2020.



Stage Management Internship:

This internship provides students with hands-on stage management experience, as interns will serve as either the stage manager or ASM for our Junior and Emerging Artists Productions. The Junior Production follows our regular camp schedule in June, while the Emerging Artists production rehearses afternoons and weekends in July. The date requirements for this internship are somewhat flexible when not in rehearsal, but the ideal candidate will be available mid-May through the beginning of August. For summer 2020, we are seeking both a stage manager and an assistant stage manager.



Technical Theatre Internship:

This internship provides students with experience in our professional scene shop, and provides opportunities in most areas of technical theatre. Technical theatre interns will assist with shop maintenance and weekly summer camp shows, but will spend the majority of their time helping to get our full-scale Emerging Artists Production on its feet by constructing set pieces, building props, hanging and focusing lights, assisting with sound, etc. Students of all skill levels are encouraged to apply; however, the ideal candidate will have a basic foundation in theatre stagecraft. The date requirements for this internship are somewhat flexible, but the ideal candidate will be available late May through the beginning of August.



General information for all applicants:

Interns will be subject to a background check and the theatre requires each intern to be certified in CPR and First Aid (training will be provided).



College credit is available for this experience. This is an unpaid internship, and interns are responsible for their own housing. However, there may be additional opportunities for supplemental income (i.e. ushering productions, supervising before or after care, etc.).
