Know Theatre is pleased to announce the return of two popular Cincinnati Fringe Festival performances. The Bengsons, performers of Ain't That Good News at the 2010 Cincinnati Fringe Festival, will perform October 14 in Know Theatre's Underground following that evening's performance of Skin Tight. Kevin Thornton, writer and performer of Sex, Dreams, & Self Control at the 2009 Cincinnati Fringe Festival, will return October 18 & 19 to perform his show.

Internationally recognized artists, The Bengsons, will offer up a concert of their trademark rocking, vaudevillian, indie folk, featuring a bevy of guest singers and musicians. The concert will feature music from their Cincy Fringe critically acclaimed musical, Ain't That Good News, and from their forth coming album, The Proof (Second Bolt). Likened to a pairing of Janis Joplin and David Byrne mixed with a dash of The Books, The Bengsons have performed their frenzied and heartbreaking collage of genre and tones at venues across the US and around the world. The Bengsons' compositions serve as both monument and dedication to the people they have met on their world travels. In English, Spanish, and German, The Bengsons' powerful vocals propel vignettes of addiction, murder, and the eternal quest for home.
Sex, Dreams, & Self Control is a wildly hilarious coming-out fantasy. It's a fusion of music, spoken word, and standup comedy-- like David Sedaris with a guitar on a "sexual and romantic odyssey" (EDGE Los Angeles). This rites of passage tale presents itself bold and racy, and speaks loudly about sexuality and religion. One guitar. One man. A wild ride.
"I'm very pleased to present this encore performance of my show Sex, Dreams & Self Control in Cincinnati," says Kevin Thornton. "It's been such a long journey! While on tour with my band a few years back, I began to sketch out short stories about my younger years in Southern Indiana. I had no idea it would change the course of my life entirely. Initially an experiment at standup comedy open mics; over time the vignettes morphed into a full-fledged theatre piece."

Tickets to The Bengsons are $6 at the door, or free with a ticket to Skin Tight on October 14. Tickets to Kevin Thornton's Sex, Dreams, & Self Control are $12 and can be purchased online at knowtheatre.com or by calling the box office at (513) 300-KNOW (5669).

Kevin Thornton - Remember all those Waves on Waves Tshirts from Cincy Fringe 2009? Yeah, that's this guy. Waves on Waves is one of Kevin Thornton's many musical projects. Kevin also recently won "New Faces" night at The World Famous Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood. Twice. Also, he can fly. Ok, he can't fly but word on the street is that he is well endowed.
