Covedale Center Holds Auditions For EVITA And UNNECESSARY FARCE 5/23, 5/24

Covedale Center for the Performing Arts will hold Auditions for the first two up-coming Productions
Of The Covedale's 2010/2011 season: EVITA And UNNECESSARY FARCE on Sunday, May 23, 2010, 6:30 - 9:30 pm and Monday, May 24, 2010, 6:30 - 9:30 pm.

All auditions will be held at the Covedale Center for the Performing Arts, 4990 Glenway Avenue in West Price Hill.

Adult (17 + years of age) MUST HAVE A PERFORMANCE RESUME to audition and must be able to provide a resume listing theatrical experience.

Both casts include many roles for adult males and females. Evita will also require singers and dancers.

EVITA: Please prepare: A song that best represents your voice and range. Please bring sheet music for the audition. No a cappella auditions will be considered. Auditionees will read from the script and should be prepared to do a dance combination as well.

Rehearsals begin Monday, August 23rd.
Performance dates: September 30 - October 17, 2010.

Argentina's controversial First Lady comes to life in this musical masterpiece. At the age of fifteen, Eva Peron escaped her dirt-poor existence for the bright lights of Buenos Aires. Driven by ambition and blessed with charisma, she was a starlet at twenty-two, the president's mistress at twenty-four, First Lady at twenty-seven, and dead at thirty-three. But Eva "saint to the working-class, reviled by the aristocracy and mistrusted by the military" left a fascinating legacy, unique in the 20th century - a story told via a dynamic score that includes "Don't Cry For Me Argentina", "Another Suitcase in Another Hall" and "The Night of a Thousand Stars".

Eva Peron, the 2nd wife of the Argentine President, Juan Peron (Female, 17 - 30 years of age)
Che Guevara, a young Argentine Student/Narrator (Male, 21 - 35 years of age)
Juan Peron, Argentine President (Male, 32 - 55 years of age)
Augustine Magaldi, A Tango singer/Evita's lover (Male 23 - 55 years of age)
Peron's Mistress (Female 17 - 25 years of age)
Ensemble/People of Argentina (various ages)

UNNECESSARY FARCE: Auditionees will read from the script.

Rehearsals begin Sunday, September 12th. Performance dates: October 28 - November 14, 2010.

Two cops. Three crooks. Eight doors. Go! In a cheap motel room, an embezzling mayor is supposed to meet with his female accountant, while in the room next-door, two undercover cops wait to catch the meeting on videotape. But there's some confusion as to who's in which room, who's being videotaped, who's taken the money, who's hired a hit man, and why the accountant keeps taking off her clothes. This zany comedy has more twists than a bag full of Twizzlers!

Bob Brunner, Director; Alice Flanders, Stage Manager

Characters include:

Eric Sheridan, Male 30s. A police officer. A bookish, even-keeled guy who finds himself completely out of his element when called upon to express his feelings for a woman, lie to his boss, disguise himself as someone else, and stand up to an armed mobster - while not wearing any pants.

Billie Dwyer, Female, 20s/30s. A police officer, Eric's partner. Excitable and entirely unthreatening, she seemingly lacks every skill necessary for police work, but is eager to succeed as she seems destined to fail.

Karen Brown, Female, 30s. An accountant, who has always taken pride in her accountant-like, professional demeanor - until this morning, when she finds herself filled with a sexual hunger, and unable to keep things under control.

Mayor Meekly, Male 50s to 70s. An Innocent, with a capital I. An affable, gentle fellow. Not too quick on the pick-up, but a sweet, sweet soul.

Agent Frank, Male, 20s to 50s. The head of Security at Town Hall, and frankly, the wrong man for the job. Though he presents the confident, gruff exterior of a secret service agent (or film noir detective, even), he is frequiently (and, at moments of crisis, invariably) a man frightened by his own shadow.

Todd, Male, 20s to 50s. Speaks with a pronouncEd Scottish accent. A professional hit man. Cool, quiet, and perceptive when at his best, but more frequently an angry Scotsman - and the angrier he becomes, the thicker his accent gets, until he is entirely indecipherable.

Mary Meekly, Female, 50s to 70s. The Mayor's wife. Small in stature and unfailingly sweet, she seems, in every way, the perfect match for her husband.

Please note: Performers do not have to be the character ages as listed, but must be able to play those ages.
