THEATRE AT THE CENTER'S

THEATRE FOR YOUNG AUDIENCES

Announces

2008-2009 Season

Munster, INDIANA – Theatre at the Center's Theatre for Young Audiences, 1040 Ridge Road, Munster, Indiana, recognized for bringing exciting, fun and educational productions, announces their 2008-2009 season. The tale of mischievous Max & Ruby putting on a play takes the stage October 15 through October 18; The Christmas That Almost Wasn't, the "behind the scenes" story of Christmas written by children, for children, will run December 1 through December 15; a story of courage and equality, The Color of Justice runs February 2 through February 6; and the funny, loveable Junie B. Jones comes to the stage April 21 through April 25.

RoseMary Wells' beloved bunny siblings come to life on stage in a fun-filled musical production for the whole family in Max & Ruby.  Seven year old Ruby and her little brother Max want to put on a play for Grandma.  However, as is typical with the mischievous Max and his older sister Ruby, some comedic hurdles arise along the way, and Ruby needs to call on her Bunny Scout friends to help them try to finish the play on time. Max & Ruby features music and lyrics by Carol Hall ("Sesame Street", Free to be… You and Me).

The true spirit of the holidays is described in three short plays written by and for children in The Christmas That Almost Wasn't. The hustle and bustle and near disasters of the Christmas season are brought to life during "Dinky the Dancing Reindeer", "How Santa Got Well" and "Santa and the Witch". Dancing reindeer, medical mix-ups and a spell casting witch are all involved in these delightful tales of narrowly averted Christmas disasters. Join Santa and friends for a behind-the-scenes peek at the entertaining Christmas preparations at the North Pole.

The Color of Justice is the tale of a courageous young girl. It is the story of America in the 1950's, a time of segregated restaurants and schools, separate restrooms and drinking fountains for "colored" and "whites". It was also a time when "separate but equal" was upheld by the United States Supreme Court. Eight year old Grace Carter does not understand why her "colored" school has to settle for hand-me-downs from "white" schools.  Most importantly, she and her family don't want to be treated like a "special" group of people. The Color of Justice is the tale of Grace Carter's battle; a battle against bigots, against fearful friends and neighbors and a battle for her safety and her home.

Junie B. Jones is a colorful, funny, fast-paced musical which takes the audience into the life of the outspoken, precocious, lovable heroine of the same name. Join Junie as she experiences new friends, new glasses, sugar cookies, the annual kickball tournament, and other angst-ridden situations! Follow her adventures as she writes down the story of her life in her "Top Secret Personal Beeswax Journal". Junie B. Jones is based on Barbara Punk's series of books, published by Random House.
