The House Theatre of Chicago Presents THIEVES LIKE US, Opens 9/19

By:

The House Theatre of Chicago is thrilled to present the premiere of THIEVES LIKE US, opening September 19 at the Chopin Theatre (1543 W. Division St), with preview performances September 9-18. Developed in partnership with DePaul University, THIEVES LIKE US follows one man attempting to make his own morality during the Depression-era Dust Bowl while torn between the need to honor old loyalties and a chance at new love. The show will run through October 30.

Bowie Bowers busts out of Alky prison and goes on a spree of bank robberies with hardened criminals T-Dub and Chicamaw. His newfound gal Keechie wants him to give up the life and settle down. But Bowie figures he's no more a thief than the politicians and bankers who steal with their brains instead of a gun. When the law busts up the gang Bowie is forced to make a decision: does he lam it for Mexico with Keechie or does he break Chicamaw out of jail to be their guide?

Writer Damon Kiely based this new adaptation of THIEVES LIKE US on Edward Anderson's noir crime novel of the same name. Director Kimberly Senior continues with the show at The House Theatre of Chicago after directing the Class of 2010 Master of Fine Arts in Acting Candidate in a production at DePaul University, where she is an adjunct faculty member teaching Theatrical Collaboration.

THIEVES LIKE US is written by Damon Kiely and adapted from the novel by Edward Anderson. Kimberly Senior directs.

Performances are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 7 p.m. THIEVES LIKE US plays at the Chopin Theatre Upstairs Theatre (1543 W. Division St., Chicago). Tickets are $25 - $29 with $15 Preview Performances. Tickets may be purchased by calling (773) 769-3832 or online at www.TheHouseTheatre.com.
