New Lincoln Theatre presents When Angels Wept, by Charles Grippo, a drama that explores the universal challenge of getting through the trials of life in an imperfect world.

When Angels Wept is a semi-fictitious drama inspired by the 1958 fire at the Our Lady of the Angels Catholic School. The Donahue family finds their close family ties shaken to the core when tragedy strikes. Searching for answers and meaning, their son Joseph falls into spiritual and human darkness. Told with humor, suspense, and drama, the story of Joseph's journey as he finds his way out of the depths of despair will stir the soul, inspire the mind, and touch the heart of anyone who has ever faced loss in his own life.

Playwright Charles Grippo is an attorney, producer, playwright, novelist and composer-lyricist. He owns Charles Grippo Productions and New Lincoln Theatre Productions. His plays, including Outrageous Misfortune; The Tooth of the Matter; Bedroom Follies; A Wife's Tale; and Santa's Children, have been produced by theater companies in Chicago, New York and California. His critically acclaimed two act farce Sex Marks the Spot (Amazon) was so successful in its premiere production in Chicago that by audience demand it was brought back for a second sold out production. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild.

Gerald H. Bailey (Director) has been involved in more than 150 productions as an actor, director, musical director and composer at several professional Midwest theatres.

He has recently directed and written music for Alegrías y lágrimas for Raven Theatre. Bailey has also directed The Collage Project (Victory Gardens Studio Theatre), The Member of the Wedding (Delaney Theatre Company), and Home Ain't Nothin' But a Word (Hidden Stages Productions). He directed This Is Probably Not a Play as part of Suzan-Lori Parks' 365 Days/365 Plays for Bailiwick Repertory Theatre and directed a piece for Theatre of Women III at Dream Theatre Company.

Grippo Stage Company, Inc. is a non-profit theater which seeks to present and support original plays and create opportunities for actors, directors, choreographers, and designers to practice their craft.
