Queen City Theatre Company, winner of the Metrolina Theatre Association award for 2010 Theatre Company of the Year, presents the London version of the musical CHESS marking the end of QCTC's 4th season at the Duke Energy Theatre at Spirit Square with an all star cast and under the direction of Glenn T. Griffin. A musical extravaganza with an incredible lighting display, glam inspired costumes and one of the most popular rock scores ever written for the musical theatre.

At the height of the Cold War, two great chess masters-an American and a Russian-battle for the world championship... but their greatest contest is for the love of one woman. From Merano to Bangkok, The Players, lovers, politicians, CIA and KGB make their moves to the pulse of this monumental rock score. The ancient and distinguished game of chess is used as a metaphor for romantic rivalries and political intrigue.

Chess-the allegory of political intrigue and international conspiracy set to the brilliant music of ABBA's Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson (Mamma Mia!) and the lyrics of Tim Rice (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Evita and The Lion King) is one of the greatest musical theatre scores of all time, including the songs "One Night in Bangkok", "You and I", "Pity the Child", "Anthem", and "I Know Him So Well".

The Charlotte, NC production features powerful performances by some of the city's most recognized and award winning actors, directed by Glenn T. Griffin, choreography by Heidy Ludden and musical direction by Marty Gregory. Queen City Theatre Company brings Chess to Charlotte for a theatre experience that promises to be both visually and vocally stunning.
