Piedmont Players Theatre Announces Cast of A THOUSAND CRANES, Beg. 2/28

Piedmont Players Theatre introduces the cast of A THOUSAND CRANES, a drama by Kathryn Schultz Miller.

A Thousand Cranes is based on the true story of Sadako Sasaki, a young girl born in Hiroshima during World War II. Ten years after the atomic bomb fell on Hiroshima the people of Japan were still feeling the effects of the bomb, and Sadako was diagnosed with "radiation sickness" (leukemia). In her struggle against this illness, she began folding paper cranes, relying on the ancient tale that states if a sick person folds one thousand paper cranes, the gods will grant her wish and make her healthy again. Although Sadako's died before she was able to finish folding a thousand cranes, her friend and classmates finished the task for her, to help make Sadako's wish come true-for Sadako to live and for there never to be another atomic bomb. Her friends helped build a monument to Sadako and all the children who were killed in the bomb, which now stands in the Hiroshima Peace Park. A THOUSAND CRANES is a moving story of one girl's courage and triumph.

The show will perform for the public on February 28 and March 1, 7-8, 2014, with school show dates March 4-7. (In addition to the public shows, A Thousand Cranes will be performed for all RSS 4th & 5th grade classes).
