Deep Dish Hosts A Reception with Mi Vida Loca Playwright Eric Overmyer 9/11

By:

The Deep Dish Theater will host a reception for acclaimed playwright, screenwriter and producer Eric Overmyer at 6:30 PM on Saturday, September 11 in the theater's lobby. Overmyer is visiting Chapel Hill in conjunction with the theater's production of his 1990 play Mi Vida Loca, which is the opening production of the theater's 10th Anniversary Season.

"We're very pleased that Eric could make time in his schedule to come out, see the play and meet our audience," said Paul Frellick, founding Artistic Director of the theater. "It's a great way to celebrate the beginning of our tenth year in Chapel Hill."

Known best for his work on such television shows such as Law & Order, The Wire, In Treatment, and most recently Treme, Eric Overmyer began his career as a playwright and continues to write for the stage. He is the recipient of two Writers' Guild Awards, a Humanitas Award, an Emmy nomination and a Mystery Writers of America Award, as well numerous grants and fellowships. Some of his plays include: Dark Rapture; In a Pig's Valise; In Perpetuity Throughout the Universe; and adapted classics, like Alki, based on Henrik Ibsen's Peer Gynt.

The reception is free and open to the public and takes place prior to the 8 PM performance of Mi Vida Loca. The smart and sexy comic drama revolves around a troubled family reuniting at their home on Washington's Olympic Peninsula following the father's start of treatment for drug addiction. The popular and critically acclaimed production runs through September 18.

Tickets for performances are $19 adults, $17 seniors and educators, with a $2 discount for Wednesday and Thursday shows. Student tickets are $12 for all performances. Tickets are available at the Deep Dish box office in University Mall, Wednesday to Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m., (919) 968-1515; they can also be purchased on the website.

Performances begin Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sunday (matinee) at 2 p.m. Deep Dish is located in Chapel Hill's University Mall, on Estes Drive and US 15-501.

The Deep Dish Theater Company is committed to presenting compelling, human-centered dramatic work that contributes to the cultural richness of the Triangle area and challenges audiences to explore concerns of the community and the world-at-large.
