CPCC Theatre will kickoff its 2011-2012 season with Frank Wildhorn's "The Civil War" in September, commemorating the 150th anniversary of this national conflict that defined America, and announce that it will be hosting Thursday night talkback sessions after the performances with the show's cast and noted experts on the play's subject matter.

Drawing on letters, diaries, firsthand accounts and the words of Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass and Walt Whitman, "The Civil War" is a thrilling and awe-inspiring production that captures the emotional landscape of a war considered one of the most difficult tests in U.S. history.

"The Civil War" seeks to put a human face on this historical tragedy, exploring not only the experiences of the soldiers and leaders who fought for their way of life, but also the hopes and fears of the slaves whose freedom was at stake. The production will passionately ask audience members to consider their beliefs about freedom, honor and faith.
Patrons who attend the Thursday, Sept. 29 performance will have the opportunity to hear from Eileen Woodward, a retired CPCC history instructor, after the show when she participates in the evening's talkback session and takes audience members back in time to the period of the Civil War and describes its pivotal role in American history.
