A "friend of Dorothy" is a euphemism for a gay man, first used in LGBT slang, and is more broadly used to describe any LGBTQ person. Stating that, or asking if someone is a friend of Dorothy is a furtive way of suggesting sexual orientation while avoiding hostility. This is a curated view of the queer spectrum as told through monologues derived by interviews.
