Theatre Harrisburg Presents THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, Now thru 2/17

By:

Theatre Harrisburg will present the Harrisburg premiere of the hit 2006 Tony Award winning musical comedy THE DROWSY CHAPERONE. Opening tonight, February 1 at Whitaker Center, other performances are scheduled for February 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 16 & 17. Show times are Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Fridays at 8:00 p.m., Saturday, February 2 at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, February 9 & 16 at 8:00 p.m., and Sundays at 2:00 p.m.

THE DROWSY CHAPERONE is both a clever, witty and totally entertaining production from the recent Broadway stage as well as an homage to the great American musicals of the Jazz Age. To beat the blues, the host and commentator for the show, known only as Man in Chair, listens to a treasured record album - remember those? - of his favorite show. Miraculously, his dingy studio apartment is transformed into the impressive set of the fictional 1928 musical THE DROWSY CHAPERONE complete with zany characters, glitzy costumes, show-stopping choreography and the inevitable happy ending.

Theatre Harrisburg takes its slogan "Where Community Takes Center Stage!" very seriously and recognizes that current economic conditions make it difficult for many of their friends and neighbors in Central Pennsylvania to enjoy live theatre. That's why every seat in the house of all three opening weekend performances of THE DROWSY CHAPERONE (February 1 - 3) is priced at only $15. Beyond that, tickets are still a very reasonable $20, $29 & $35. Tickets may be purchased by visiting or calling the Whitaker Center box office at (717) 214-ARTS.

Theatre Harrisburg's production of THE DROWSY CHAPERONE stars Thomas Hostetter as Man in Chair, Marisa Keener as Janet, Russ Reed as Robert, Amy Rosenberry as the Drowsy Chaperone, Darren Riddle as Aldolpho, Doug Macut as Feldzig, Mandi Krepps as Kitty, Kristi Ondo as Mrs. Tottendale, Kerry Mowery as Underling, Tony Barber as George, Rick Graybill and Brandon Fuller as the Gangsters and Rebecca Bremer as Trix. Also in the cast are Joe Chubb, Rebecca Mease and Kate Roksandic.

Steven Flom serves as both director and choreographer for this production. He and music director Gregg Mauroni are both veterans of some of Theatre Harrisburg's biggest recent hits including the local premiere of the musical CURTAINS in 2010 as well as THE SOUND OF MUSIC and ANNIE. Paul Foltz created the over-the-top costumes and Nels Martin designed the transforming sets.
