WNEP reports that South Williamsport principal sent an email to the drama director citing homosexual themes as a reason for the cancelation. The principal also stated in her email that "homosexuality did not exist a conservative community such as South Williamsport."
The school recieved a mixed reaction from parents and community members. Some thought the decision was made in good judgement and others thought it was insensitive to children in the area. The school superintendent commented, "We want our performances to be appropriate for the student performers and audiences so that anyone participating or watching can enjoy all aspects of the show."
