Hershey Symphony Orchestra Announces Young Artist Competition Winners

By:

The Hershey Symphony Orchestra is proud to announce the results of its 13th Annual Young Artist Competition (YAC), held earlier this month at Elizabethtown College. The competition has showcased accomplished young musicians from across South Central Pennsylvania since 2001.

Lily Wushanley of Millersville is the winner of this year's competition. She played Haydn's C Major Cello Concerto. Wushanley was awarded the $1500 first prize and will perform with the Hershey Symphony Orchestra in December.

Two other musicians tied for second place. They are Lisa Kong, a 10th grader from Manheim Township High School and Nancy Wang, a 10th grader at Hershey High School. Both girls received $400. Honorable mention awards of $300 were given to Isabelle Macioce from Carlisle and John Landis from Columbia.

The prize money and financial support for the competition are once again generously donated by Charles Turner of Turner and Associates of Hershey.
The Young Artist competition fosters young artists with superior musical abilities who reside in South Central Pennsylvania. Students enrolled in grades 7 through 11 may submit a recording to the Hershey Symphony. Those selected for live audition play in the finals each March before a panel of highly qualified professionals. Admission to the competition is free and open to the public. The winner(s) perform with the Hershey Symphony Orchestra during the orchestra's next season.
