DreamWrights Youth and Family Theatre will bring spooky fun for the whole family to York with its rendition of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow for 13 performances: Oct. 4, 5, 11, 12, 18 and 19 at 6:30 p.m.; Oct. 5, 6, 12, 13, 19 and 20 at 2:30 p.m.; and Oct. 19 at 9:00 a.m.
Two casts of 66 total performers ranging in age from 7 to 55 years old; 30 total crew members; 22 total volunteers; two semi-life-sized horses ridden by performers; and one animated goose will bring this adaptation of Washington Irving's classic tale to the stage. During the performance, audience members will be transported to a mysterious 1820's town where they will meet Ichabod Crane, a new school teacher who finds himself at wits with Brom Bones, the town bully. Bones spooks Crane by telling him the story of a Revolutionary soldier who haunts the Hollow in search of his head, lost during battle. As Crane rides home through the Hollow one night, he is chased by a headless figure that will keep audiences on The Edge of their seats.
Over 140 performers auditioned to be a part of the October show which first premiered in York in 1996. This year's show has been adapted to cater to a round stage format where the audience seating completely surrounds the stage.
"The round stage format will allow audiences to be completely immersed in this performance which is a little spooky but family friendly," said Diane Crews, Artistic Director of DreamWrights. "DreamWrights is proud to bring The Legend of Sleepy Hollow to York just in time to celebrate October and Halloween."
