Ted Daniel And His IBMC To Honor Jazz Legend 'King' Oliver In Newburgh
By: Stephi Wild

Jazz at Atlas (JAA) will present life-long Hudson Valley resident and celebrated trumpeter, cornetist and composer Ted Daniel and his ensemble, the International Brass & Membrane Corps (IBMC), at Atlas Studios, 11 Spring St. in Newburgh on Saturday, July 21 at 8 PM. General admission is $20 at the door. No advance tickets will be available.
The group brings a contemporary reading to the early New Orleans jazz of Joseph "King" Oliver and features leader Daniel on cornet, Marvin Sewell on guitar, Joseph Daley on tuba and Newman Taylor Baker on drums. The concert will celebrate the release of IBMC's new CD, Zulu's Ball -- Ted Daniel Plays the Music of King Oliver, on Altura Records. Daniel has lived most of his life in Ossining. A leading figure in the NYC loft jazz scene in the 1970s, he has recorded and performed with such major artists as Sam Rivers, Archie Shepp, Dewey Redman, Andrew Cyrille, Billy Bang, Henry Threadgill, and Defunkt while also leading groups of his own. His IBMC is a powerful quartet with equally long histories in jazz and demonstrates how even the oldest forms of this music can be approached with both respect and freshness.Sponsored By
