Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College Presents The Nutcracker

Back by popular demand, The Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College presents the Brighton Ballet Theater Company's The Nutcracker on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at 3:00 pm in the Colden Auditorium at Queens College. Parking is free. Tickets are $18 and $12 for children 12 and under.

Welcome the holiday season with this family classic. The Nutcracker performed by the Brighton Ballet Theater Company is the perfect introduction to this perennial holiday favorite. Brighton Ballet's original version features dazzling Russian-trained dancers, exquisite costumes and the beloved music by Tchaikovsky. Choreographed by Edouard Kouchnarev, a new generation Russian choreographer who has danced and choreographed throughout the world, this ballet is created for family audiences.

In spectacular costumes, dancers from the Brighton Ballet Theater's professional and junior companies recreate that magical night when a young girl sees the Nutcracker and other toys come to life in her living room.

BBT's version of the Nutcracker departs from the usual winter fairy tale that is seen in American ballet theaters. "Our productions are highly supported by the New York multicultural community," said Irina Roizin, President of BBT. "This production will portray the beautiful international diversity of New York with dances representing the countries of Spain, Nigeria, China, India, France and Russia. The ballet culminates in the Land of Freedom rather than the traditional Land of Sweets."

In addition to featuring professional dancers from some of the leading dance theaters in the former Soviet Union, the BBT's Nutcracker highlights the achievements of its young dancers, some of them as young as age six. BBT places a major emphasis on creating live stage performance opportunities for its children, and this year-ending spectacular provides a unique opportunity for children to dance alongside professional dancers. "
