Cooperstown Summer Music Festival Features Juilliard and Jupiter String Quartets and More

The Cooperstown Summer Music Festival's 14th season features a mix of top classical and jazz artists performing in Cooperstown, NY from July 8 – August 24. 

The Festival opens Sunday, July 8 with Jason Vieaux, guitar, Ms. Chesis, Nadir Khashimov, violin; Daniel Lee, viola; and Eric Han, cello at The Farmers' Museum.

The prize-winning Jupiter String Quartet performs works by Haydn, Bartók and Mendelssohn at The Farmers' Museum on July 29 at 7:30 pm. The Festival will hold a Flute Fest, in conjunction with the New York Summer Music Festival's International Flute Institute on August 2 at the Otesaga Resort Hotel.

On Sunday August 5 at 7:30 pm at the Otesaga Resort Hotel, the Horszowski Trio and Linda Chesis will perform works by Saint-Saens, Schubert and Nino Rota. The Trio, which formed in 2011, includes Jesse Mills, violin; Raman Ramakrishnan, cello; and Rieko Aizawa, piano.

From August 6-8, the Horszowski Trio will lead the Festival's Pro Am Seminar. Free performances in and around Cooperstown will feature members of the trio and Ms. Chesis performing with highly accomplished amateur musicians.

The Tierney Sutton Band performs August 12 at the Otesaga Resort Hotel. Their 2011 album American Road received the band's fourth consecutive Grammy Nomination for "Best Vocal Jazz Album."

On Sunday, August 19 at 3 pm, Laurie Carney, violin, Daniel Avshalomov, viola; Shirley Irek, piano; William Grubb, cello; and Linda Chesis will perform in a 3 pm concert titled "The Grand Tour: Vienna, Madrid and Paris." The concert, which features the sumptuous Fauré Piano Quartet No. 1 in C minor, will be held at the Otesaga Resort Hotel.

The Festival finale will be August 24 with the Juilliard String Quartet performing an all-Beethoven in a 7:30 pm concert at The Farmers' Museum. The quartet was ready to perform as the season finale in 2011, when Tropical Storm Irene hit the area, and road closures, power outages, and high winds forced the concert to be cancelled. "We're delighted they offered to return," says Ms. Chesis. "I know many people were looking forward to this performance, and I'm glad to bring these wonderful artists back to Cooperstown for a second chance."

The Flute Fest on August 2 and ProAm performances August 6-8 are free and do not require a ticket or a reservation.
