About this camp
Young Artists of America runs Summer Performing Arts Intensives (SPAI) for elementary, middle, high school and rising college students across the Washington, DC area, repeatedly voted a best summer camp in the Washington City Paper Reader's Poll. Programs are grouped into overnight intensives, daytime academies and overnight conservatories, and students train in voice, acting, dance and, new for 2026, technical theatre and design. Overnight programs include room and board and welcome campers from around the world. Daytime academies pair two weeks of classes with a full staged production, while the conservatories combine immersive musical theatre instruction with a full production. The organization is a nonprofit and also runs year-round performance companies and an orchestra for grades 3 through 12.
Overnight intensives include room and board and end in a Final Showcase; the new Tech Theatre Intensive ends in a Capstone Project. Daytime academies pair two weeks of classes with a full stage production, and the Kids Academy ends in a final shareformance. Overnight conservatories combine two weeks of immersive musical theatre instruction, room and board, and a full stage production. Campuses are located across the Washington, DC area and overnight programs accept campers from around the world.
