TXST High School Theatre Summer Camp

Bobcat Theatre Camp, run by the Division of Theatre at Texas State University in San Marcos, is the successor to the university's high school theatre summer camp. It was restructured from a two-week overnight camp into one-week day camp sessions running 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with an extended-hours option from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Two sessions are offered: grades 2-8 in early July and grades 9-12 the following week. Campers choose a performer or technician track. Performers take masterclasses in acting, directing, movement and voice and, in the high school session, a College Crash Course; technicians study lighting, sound and stage management and work in the university's scenic and costume shops. Both tracks work with college faculty and guest artists and the camp ends with a devised production free for family and friends. Tuition is $500.

No audition piece is required; directors cast using movement activities and cold readings. Campers bring a sack lunch except on performance day. No transportation provided.
