The North Country Camps - Lincoln for boys, Whippoorwill for girls - are approaching our 96th consecutive season under the continuous direction of the Gucker family. Unique among children's summer camps in the United States, our program offers to the urban and suburban child real wilderness adventure blended with the development of many athletic, creative and social skills; strong community spirit that emphasizes working together and doing your share; the freedom and accompanying responsibility of learning to make your own choices; and the sheer joy of simple, down to earth, outdoor living and playful fun.

Drama is an important part of our camp culture, as well as a weekly activity to develop technique and skill. We create funny performances around many of the regular camp activities and trips. There are frequent opportunities for campers to perform on stage, while sometimes the focus is just on having an entertaining improv activity. We also do a large-scale production each summer, with children from both camps making up the cast and crew.

Both camps are divided into three separate housing areas, the youngest girls and boys in cabin groups of three or four, Juniors in groups of five or six, and Seniors in groups of six or seven. A counselor lives with every cabin group. Serving as bedroom, resting place and hangout, the cabin becomes central to each camper's life at camp, where friends are made, thoughts and ideas are shared, and much can be learned about the give and take of living with others.
