About this camp
NEXUS is a residential pre-college musical theatre intensive run by the Division of Theatre in the School of Theatre, Dance, and Film at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. The 2026 session ran June 15-25. It is open to rising high school freshmen through rising seniors and admits up to 60 students by video audition, with no audition fee; applicants prepare two contrasting songs, a one-minute monologue and a dance sample. The curriculum combines artist training (acting and monologue coaching, dance, song coaching, audition preparation, pop/rock workshop) with wellness workshops on stress reduction, confidence and imposter syndrome, plus performance workshops in audition technique, musicianship and ensemble collaboration. Students also take part in the program's Musical Development Lab. Tuition is $2,900 including dorm housing and all meals.
Residential; campers share a dorm room with one roommate and eat in a campus dining hall. Admission is by video audition with no audition fee; applications open December 1 with an early deadline of February 1 and a final deadline of March 1. Up to 60 students are accepted. Airport shuttles to and from Austin-Bergstrom are provided. There is no parent showcase at the end of camp.
