Tommy Tune Debuts Solo Cabaret TAPS, TUNES AND TALL TALES at NJPAC Tonight

NJPAC welcomes Broadway's quintessential actor, dancer, singer, theatre director, producer, and choreographer, Tommy Tune, for his first solo cabaret show, Taps, Tunes and Tall Tales. NJPAC's Chase Room will host the 9-time Tony award winner tonight, November 24th at 3pm as he takes an autobiographical stroll through his vast career featuring renditions of standards by Irving Berlin, Kurt Weill, Cole Porter, and many more.

At 6'6, Broadway's tallest tapper made his Broadway debut in 1965 as a performer in the musical Baker Street. His first Broadway directing and choreography credits were for the original production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas in 1978. Tune has directed and/or choreographed eight Broadway musicals, most notably A Day in Hollywood / A Night in the Ukraine (1980) (director, choreographer), Nine (1982) (director), My One and Only (1983) (performer, choreographer), Stepping Out (1987) (director), Grand Hotel (1989) (director, choreographer) and The Will Rogers Follies (1991) (director, choreographer).

Accompanied by Michael Biagi, his pianist and musical director for nearly four decades, Tune's musical journey will include handpicked songs by everyone from Kurt Weill ("September Song"), Johnny Mercer ("I Remember You"), Leiber & Stoller ("I've Got Them Feelin' Too Good Today Blues") and Lerner & Loewe ("I've Grown Accustomed to His Face") to Burt Bacharach ("Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head"), Carol King ("Up on the Roof"), and even Green Day ("Wake Me Up When September Ends").

Taps, Tunes and Tall Tales is a celebration of Tune's 50 years in show business, the artifacts of which, preserved in a downtown storage space, were turned to toast by Hurricane Sandy. Luckily for us he stores his memories safely in his heart now, and shares them warmly, generously and bountifully in a show that will leave audiences begging for more.
