Tom Hewitt Will Be ANOTHER MEDEA at the Duplex, Beg. 3/31
Tony Award-nominated actor Tom Hewitt will play a modern day Medea in the world premiere of Another Medea, a disturbing monodrama written and directed by Aaron Mark. This limited engagement will run 4 performances only at the Duplex Cabaret Theatre beginning March 31st.
In Another Medea, we meet the incarcerated Marcus Sharp, a one time New York actor who recounts in gruesome detail how his obsessions with a man named Jason and the myth of Medea lead to horrific, unspeakable events. Writer-director Aaron Mark describes the eighty-minute monologue as "Grand Guignol horror in the style of Spalding Gray". Despite its cabaret setting, Another Medea is all spoken and is not for the faint of heart.
Tom Hewitt has played such iconic and varied villains as the title role in Dracula, Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show, Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar, Scar in The Lion King, Captain Hook in Peter Pan, and Lockstock in Urinetown. Another Medea will give audiences an opportunity to experience Hewitt's unique talent in a much more intimate and terrifying setting.
Aaron Mark is the director of Ben Rimalower's critically acclaimed Patti Issues, which has been running at The Duplex since August and will soon be seen around the country. His most recent independent feature film, Commentary, features Tom Hewitt in an ensemble of Broadway veterans that also includes Alison Fraser, Chip Zien, Leslie Kritzer, and Liz Larsen. His other feature films are Random Unrelated Projects (Best Experimental Feature, NYIFF) and Zbornik Developing (available at SethTV.com), and his plays, Failed Suicide Attempts (Living Room Series, Blank Theatre in Hollywood), Cirque du Mental (8 Plays in 8 Days, Hamilton Stage), f-ing Wagner, Dead Agenting, Jackson, Plays With Landline Phones, Subject, Bait, and Deer are all in various stages of "development". Another Medea will play Sunday, March 31st at 9:30, Monday, April 1st at 9:30, Sunday, April 7th at 4:00, and Tuesday, April 9th at 9:30. Tickets are only $10 in advance, $15 at the door, plus a 2 drink minimum, and can be purchased at anothermedea.brownpapertickets.com.
