The Civilians bring their final LET ME ASCERTAIN YOU cabaret of the season to Joe's Pub on Monday, April 10th, 2017 at 9:30 p.m. "Hate Actually" is an interview-based cabaret is curated by Civilians R&D Group members Jessie Dean, Kareem Fahmy and Anthony Weigh.

Tickets are $15, and are available at online at joespub.org or at The Public Theater box office, 425 Lafayette Street in Manhattan.

Investigating everything from mild indignations to our deepest detestations, "Hate Actually" traces a path from the small everyday irritation, to the serious lifelong abhorrence, to the multi-generational grudge. Is to hate to be human? At what cost?

Interviews for "Hate Actually" were conducted by members of The Civilians' Field Research Team. Some interviews were planned, and other happened spontaneously on the street, where we asked consenting strangers, "What do you hate?"

Join The Civilians as we explore the darker side of human nature alongside an idea inimical to our current times: maybe it is not love that makes the world go 'round, but hate actually.'

Featured composers include Andrew R. Butler, Sarah Taylor Ellis and Rona Siddiqui. Performers include Sam Casey, Matthew Lieff Christian, Greg Hildreth (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella), Lacretta (Disaster), Samia Mounts and Pearl Rhein (Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812).

The Civilians creates new theater from creative investigations into the most vital questions of the present. This season's other LET ME ASCERTAIN YOU cabarets were called "War on Christmas" and "Hormones." Other recent credits include The Undertaking, Rimbaud in New York, Another Word for Beauty, Pretty Filthy, Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Play, and The Great Immensity. In 2015, the company was the first ever theater company in residence at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Since its founding in 2001, the OBIE award-winning company has been produced at The Public Theater, Vineyard Theatre, BAM Next Wave Festival, Barrow Street Theater, Playwrights Horizons; and nationally at Center Theatre Group, A.R.T., La Jolla Playhouse, HBO's US Comedy Festival, the TED Conference, and Actors Theatre of Louisville, among others.
