STEVE ROSS ON BROADWAY Set for Lang Recital Hall Tonight
STEVE ROSS ON BROADWAY, which earlier this month received rave reviews at The Crazy Coqs in The West End, features classic standards from The Golden Age of Broadway, nestling aside lesser-known gems by the Gershwins, Dietz and Schwartz, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, Kander and Ebb, Bob Merrill, Stephen Sondheim and others.
Steve Ross, recipient of the 2015 MAC Award for Lifetime Achievement, has been a fixture of the cabaret community in Manhattan for over forty years, beginning with his long running star making turns at The Algonquin and Ted Hook's Backstage in the 1970s. Also an accomplished actor, he appeared on Broadway as Fred, the Cockney valet, opposite Frank Langella in Noel Coward's PRESENT LAUGHTER, Off-Broadway in I WON'T DANCE: The Songs of Cole Porter and Fred Astaire, L'AMOUR, THE MERRIER, and on the West Coast as Beverly Carlton in THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER. Internationally, he has performed in London, Paris, Tokyo, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Melbourne and Sydney as well as cabarets and theaters across America and on the high seas. He's hosted programs on the BBC and American public radio and was on the lecture/performance roster at The Metropolitan Museum of Art for eight years.
Special guest star Carole Demas created the role of Sandy in the original Broadway production of GREASE, starred Off-Broadway in Fred Ebb's MORNING SUN, RONDELAY, HOW TO STEAL AN ELECTION, THE FANTASTICKS and PHILEMON, and has appeared in concerts and nightclubs throughout the world. A generation of children, now adults, grew up watching Ms. Demas and Paula Janis in their popular children's TV program "The Magic Garden", which aired on WPIX-TV and its affiliates for over twelve years. Their long lost Emmy nominated "A Magic Garden Christmas Special", which was rediscovered and aired for the first time in over three decades on Christmas Day, 2013, has become a local holiday staple and will be broadcast again on December 19th, and simultaneously streamed throughout the world from www.pix11.com.
STEVE ROSS ON BROADWAY is directed by Tony nominee Walter Willison (TWO BY TWO, GRAND HOTEL), with Sound Design by Emmy Award winner Stuart J. Allyn.
