Grammy Award-nominated jazz vocalist and JazzWeek's Vocalist of the Year Award winner Tierney Sutton and her four-piece band played Birdland through January 28, 2012.
Sutton's album "I'm with the Band" (2005) was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Jazz Vocal Album and won JazzWeek's Vocalist of the Year Award. It includes "Let's Face the Music and Dance," "'S'Wonderful," "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea," "If I Loved You," " Cheek to Cheek," "Blue Skies," "I Get a Kick Out of You" and "The Lady Is a Tramp."
The album "Dancing in the Dark" (2004), which was, according to Sutton, "inspired by the music of Frank Sinatra," includes tracks "What'll I Do," "All the Way," "Where or When" and "Fly Me to the Moon." It debuted in the Billboard Top 10 Jazz Albums and remained on the charts for over 15 weeks.
Among Sutton's other albums are "On the Other Side" (2007) with tracks including "Get Happy," "Happy Days Are Here Again," "Sometimes I'm Happy," "Happy Talk" and "Smile"; and the album "Something Cool" (2002) featuring "Comes Love," "All or Nothing at All," "Walking after Midnight," "Crazy" and "The Best Is Yet to Come."
Sutton performed at Carnegie Hall, soloing with the New York Pops Orchestra. She has also played The Hollywood Bowl, Jazz at Lincoln Center and Monterey Jazz Festival.
Born in Wisconsin and educated at Wesleyan University and Berklee College of Music, Sutton was a semi-finalist in the Thelonious Monk Jazz Vocal Competition in 1998. Her first solo album, "Introducing Tierney Sutton," was nominated for an Indie Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album.
