New Line-Up of Artists Announced for Young Centre's Saturday Night Cabaret Series

Albert Schultz, General Director of the Young Centre for the Performing Arts, today announced a new line-up of artists who will be performing as part of the Saturday Night Cabaret Series in the Garland Cabaret every Saturday night at 10pm.

Since its launch in May of this year, the Saturday Night Cabaret Series has been embraced by Toronto audiences for its eclectic mixture of music and storytelling and personal performances by fascinating and gifted artists.

The Young Centre Cabaret Series is generously supported by Laura Dinner and Richard Rooney.

John Alcorn - Saturday July 17, 2010 @ 10pm
Acclaimed for his stylish, heartfelt renditions of jazz standards, John Alcorn is a beloved fixture on the Toronto cabaret scene.

Heather Bambrick - Saturday July 24, 2010 @ 10pm
Heather Bambrick is an award-winning singer, broadcaster, and actor destined to entertain. Her recordings have received international acclaim, and her live shows combine her amazing voice with natural stage presence, warm audience rapport, timeless music, and some of the finest musicians in Canada to create a performance that is simply outstanding.

Don Francks - Saturday July 31, 2010 @ 10pm
Extraordinary Canadian actor, musician, artist, and activist, Don Francks has been creating richly textured Jazz, Native and Children's music for decades. With a career in Canadian entertainment dating back to the 1960s, Don Francks - who goes by the name of Iron Buffalo - is a living legend.

Adi Braun - Saturday August 7, 2010 @ 10pm
Toronto-born singer-songwriter Adi Braun grew up in Europe surrounded by music and musicians. She has performed in every major jazz and concert venue in Toronto, has toured Canada, the United States and Europe. Her latest production, "NOIR", is a show filled with songs and repartee inspired by the iconic period of filmmaking originating in the 1940s.

Tanika Charles - Saturday August 14, 2010 @ 10pm
NOW Magazine's Best R&B Singer of 2008, Toronto-born and Edmonton-raised Tanika Charles takes cues from the tradition of Al Green and Lee Fields to bring soul music to a younger generation. Tanika has been a touring vocalist with Bedouin Soundclash, and brings her talent and intensity to the Young Centre for a night of smouldering soul vibes.

Elizabeth Shepherd - Saturday August 21, 2010 @10pm
Elizabeth Shepherd is a singer-songwriter/pianist who straddles pop, jazz and good old-fashioned story-telling. Her accolades include 2 Juno nominations, and extensive touring across Canada, the US, Europe and Japan. Her latest album, "Heavy Falls the Night" (2010) has been heralded by both the Globe and Mail and EXCLAIM! as "her best work yet."

Luis Mario Ochoa - Saturday August 28, 2010 @ 10pm
Born in Havana, Cuba, Luis Mario Ochoa has studied at some of Havana's most renowned conservatories since the age of 11. Luis Mario moved to Toronto in 1990 and formed the band Cimarron ("free spirit") shortly thereafter. Legendary among Toronto's Latin music scene, Luis Mario's songs are a romantic fusion of Cuban and Jazz influences.

Mary Lou Fallis - Saturday September 11, 2010 @ 10pm
"Canada's foremost musical comedienne," Mary Lou Fallis is known across the country for her role in the Bravo! Television series Bathroom Divas. Through Primadonna, her ACTRA award-winning, Dora-nominated series of one-woman shows, Mary Lou has re-invented the classical music comedy genre and has toured across Great Britain, Japan, and Iceland.

Micah Barnes - Saturday September 18, 2010 @ 10pm
Singer/pianist/composer Micah Barnes has a rich musical history, and is a member of the internationally popular group The Nylons. Touring with The Nylons, Micah has shared stages with performers like Harry Connick Jr, Gladys Knight, and Michael Bolton. Micah's solo career has led to top club and concert performances in Las Vegas, Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York.

The Saturday Night Cabarets run all year at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts (future participants will be announced at a later date), located at 55 Mill Street, Building 49, in the Distillery Historic District.
