It has been 10 years since MAC and Bistro Award-winning producer, Joseph Macchia, founded of the 501c3 non-profit, Help Is On The Way Today. Then, as a volunteer for Broadway Cares/EFA, he was encouraged by that iconic organization to establish a charity to focus on the under-served demographic of children and youth with HIV and AIDS. Since then, Macchia's fundraising entertainment series, Cabaret Cares, has raised over $100,000 for Help Is On The Way Today, which has assisted over 650 young people living with HIV/AIDS.

On May 15th at their annual fundraising gala, Cabaret Cares/Help Is On The Way Today will honor Broadway Cares/EFA, the organization that was Macchia's inspiration. Macchia will present Broadway Cares/EFA with the Spirit Award, designated for an individual or organization who has shown unusual support of Help Is On The Way Today throughout the previous year.

A second Spirit Award will be given to Frank Dain, Editor of Cabaret Scenes Magazine. The 2016 Cabaret Cares Ruth Kurtzman Lifetime Achievement Award honoree is Alyce Finell, director of the Mabel Mercer Foundation.

This year's fundraising gala on May 15th at Metropolitan Room is a Black and White Masquerade Gala at Metropolitan Room. Guests are asked to wear formal or cocktail attire and naturally, a mask. The evening starts with a cocktail hour at 5:30pm, and includes dinner, an auction and a show with the following Broadway and Cabaret talent (all of whom are donating their time):

Solo performers, Dave August (composer of the charity's new theme song "Help Is On The Way Today"), Josephine Bianco, Samara Ehrlich, Marla Green, Jeff Harnar, Michael Langoria, Gary Lizardo, Lesli Margherita, Sue Matsuki, Doreen Montalvo, Sidney Myer, Gretchen Reinhagen, Tracy Stark, Stacy Sullivan and Dorian Woodruff. Duets by Barbara Fasano & Eric Comstock, Tom Gamblin & Susan Winter, Ricky Ritzel & Alison Nusbaum and Jay Rogers & Aaron Morishita will be featured.

MAC Award Winner Tom Gamblin returns to host the event and MAC and Bistro Award winner Gretchen Reinhagen directs the evening. The award winning Musical Director, Tracy Stark, returns as well.
