THE EBONY HILLBILLIES

The Ebony Hillbillies are one of the last black string bands in America. Consisting of fiddle, banjo, washboard and bass fiddle, they have successfully created a following that has crossed over to audiences in pop, country, bluegrass, folk, jazz and beyond while maintaining their grassroots credibility.

Marty Willson-Piper's career has led him through membership in such seminal and influential bands as The Church, All About Eve and The Saints, to an illustrious solo career. THE MERASI OF RAJASTHAN INDIA

Folk Arts Rajasthan's second Hearts with Hope Tour is a rare opportunity to witness a world class artistic legacy charged with passion, mastery, and social significance. Formed by Sarwar Khan of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, Merasi; the keepers of a 37 generations intact musical heritage present an invigorating mosaic of sacred Hindu, Sufi, and traditional Music of varied flavors,rhythms and intensities.

Chicha Libre plays a mixture of Latin rhythms, Surf music and Psychedelic pop inspired by Peruvian music from the Amazon. The Brooklyn-based band mixes up covers of forgotten Chicha classics with re-interpretation of 70s pop classics and French-tinged cumbias.

WAKE UP AMERICA

"Wake Up America! with Brad & Lori" is America's favorite onstage, late-night, morning talk show. It features celebrity guests, news updates, and all the fresh brewed coffee you can stomach. The show is hosted by Brad (Bradford Scobie, Pilgrim William of "Turkey Day with Pilgrim William," Moisty the New York City Snowman, and the diabolical Doctor Donut) and Lori (Laura Sweeney, Brandy Van Pelt of "The Baby Daddy Show" and Miss Ilsa of The Vavavoom Room).

The Lascivious Biddies, an all-female cocktail pop quartet based in New York City, are making headlines with their blend of "Angelic vocal harmonies, wordy humor, jazz chops & pop moxie." Ethan Lipton and his Orchestra play a brand of jazz folk country blues that's been compared to the music of Leon Redbone, Randy Newman and Tom Waits.

GIANMARIA TESTA WITH PAOLO FRESU

An extraordinary duo of two great solists. A song writer and a poet that makes the "canzone nuda", through the essential lines of the melody, harmony and text, his focus and a musician that sings with his trumpet and who knows the value and the importance of words; Gianmaria Testa and Paolo Fresu.

SHELLS - INFAMOUS!

She's back! Michelle "Shells" Haylie Hoffman, the ball-busting J.P. Morgan senior analyst turned downtown darling returns to Joe's Pub with a new set of songs, stories and drop-ins from special guests. After her infamous onstage breakdown this past February (and subsequent arrest for drunk and disorderly conduct), Shells has treated herself to a life make-over.

One Ounce of Truth The Nikki Giovanni Songs
Monday, May 26 at 7:00pm, $20 ***FINAL SHOW***
The acclaimed team of outstanding vocalist  and award-winning songwriter/performer duo, Capathia Jenkins and Louis Rosen, returns to Joe's Pub with their new, expanded band for four exciting concerts to celebrate the release of their latest CD, One Ounce of Truth: THE NIKKI GIOVANNI SONGS, a suite of new songs with words by the renowned contemporary poet, Nikki Giovanni, recorded for the prestigious independent label, PS Classics. The four concerts will highlight the world-premiere performance of One Ounce of Truth and mark the team's first return to Joe's Pub since the launching of their highly praised 2006 debut recording, South Side Stories (Rosecap Records). 

GRAZYNA AUGUSCIK + EASTERN BLOK
Monday, May 26 at 9:30pm, $20
Polish born, Chicago-based singer, composer, arranger, and producer Grazyna Auguscik is one of the most intriguing contemporary vocalists on the world's jazz scene today. Her unorthodox approach to rewriting classic works is at once a tribute to its authors as well as an adventure into uncharted territory, while her own compositions are fresh and original. The Grazyna Auguscik Orkestar Universale Project, presented at Millennium Park in Chicago last year, received a standing ovation, reaffirming that music can communicate across boundaries of language. Howard Reich of the Chicago Tribune said of her performance "Auguscik and her ensemble sound like nothing else you ever heard; they are out of this world.
